HIFF, HIFF, HOORAY!

Can you smell the popcorn? It is that time of year again when the Hawaii International Film Festival takes Honolulu by storm.

The Halekulani presents the 33rd HIFF from October 10-20, 2013 at the Dole Cannery IMAX, Hawaii Theatre, Koko Marina, and Honolulu Museum of Art Doris Duke Theater.

ImageThe much awaited Japanese animation The Wind Rises will makes its Hawaii premiere tonight at 6 p.m. at Dole Cannery. Directed by Hayao Miyazaki, the story is inspired by two real-life men; designer of the Zero fighter, Jiro Horikoshi and novel author Tatsuo Hori. Heads up, it is in Japanese but will play with English subtitles for HIFF.

Final Recipe will also make a premiere in the U.S. tonight at Dole Cannery. Beginning at 8:30 p.m., this South Korean/Thai film is in English and Mandarin with English subtitles. Directed by Gina Kim, this film tells a story of passion and love for cooking in Shanghai, China.
